10 Hard Truths about Pornography

While these 10 items are true about pornography viewing, falling in mud doesn't make one mud. If you've begun to view pornography or have viewed it for years consider the below thoughts and decide for yourself if they're true. Sometimes truth hurts, but accepting this you can move on. 1. Pornography changes one's brain. The release of chemicals that occurs during pornography use is similar to akin to those released during illicit drug use. Each time it's viewed it changes the chemistry of the brain and eventually the very structure.

2. Pornography weakens one's ability to connect to others. Connection to a picture or movie is hardly a real one. Bonding occurs during typical pornography viewing and that bond can dwarf other connections even though it cannot provide any of the things loving connections with others can like understanding, challenge and opportunities for personal growth.

3. Pornography teaches false ideas about human relationships. Because pornography is staged to fulfill unrealistic expectations those steeped in pornographic viewing often put similar outlandish expectations on others.

4. Pornography trains people to see each other as objects. Because pleasure is the main goal in pornography, the conditioning that occurs over time trains people to see others more as sources of pleasure and less as others with hopes, dreams and feelings.

5. Pornography breeds selfishness & apathy. Pornography can and does lead to addiction. The brain etched with neuronal ruts convinces people to go back at the expense of losing other & more important things.

6. Pornography eats at one's confidence & self-esteem. Once addiction sets in many promise themselves and others they will no longer engage in its viewing. When these promises are broken they lose confidence in their self control.

7. Pornography carefully encourages infidelity. The mind easily gets bored with one image, one model and wants more. After viewing thousands of people in intimate situations one is more easily persuaded to go outside committed relationships to find fulfillment. The grass almost inevitably begins to look greener elsewhere.

8. Pornography promotes collapse of all morals, boundaries & loyalties. A thread throughout pornography is open relationships between people, flying in the face of all taboos and morals of society. There are few boundaries that porn producers don't cross in order to attract and addict their market.

9. Pornography embraces violence. While you may not be interested in pornography that visual depicts violence or mistreatment, there are many actors when the cameras turn off that are forced, coerced and shamed into posing for pornography. Viewing supports this violence.

10. Pornography masks these natural outcomes. By the time you've chosen to view pornography you've already made concessions with your conscience and you're mind will often continue to defend its decision and choice to view pornography. Sometimes people can even come to see nothing wrong with their decision and there's much in our society to reinforce this perception. They're dulled their sensitivities, killed their conscience. You are valuable and important and you are much more than you may currently think. There IS hope in healing from the ill effects of pornography and there IS hope in a new and beautiful life without pornography. Hope is Real!
