A Content Management System is a web technology that enables you to publish, add, edit and delete the contents of your website without prior knowledge of coding languages like HTML and XHTML.A Content Management System works by maintaining a database of its own that stores all the data of the site on which this system is installed. It enables you to make changes in the website providing a user friendly interface that requires no technical skills at all, making it so easy for you to maintain and update your website without help of any technical personnel. Your website or in other words your whole online marketing campaign is in your hands if you opt to use this e-marketing technique.
An overwhelming variety of CMS is available nowadays however, all fall in one of the two basic categories:
1. Premium/Enterprise Level/Custom/Bespoke CMS: Custom CMSs come with advanced functionality that is required for a complex web based project. They are costly and less flexible as they are designed as per specific needs of the enterprise.
2. Open Source CMS: Open Source CMSs are those content management systems that provide basic functionalities. Ease of use and free of cost are the salient features of open source CMS.
Content Management Systems offer a multitude of benefits that turn your simple static website into a dynamic one and attract millions of customers to your site. Advantages of CMSs can be broadly categorized as:

A CMS site on the other hand is very cost effective as even if you go for the Premium CMS instead of Open Source CMS it will cost you just at the time of installment but later it will be very easy and budget friendly for you to maintain your website.
