Breast Implant Surgery

Women use breast augmentation surgery to enhance genetically small or asymmetrical breasts, or to improve a decrease in breast size or firmness as a result of pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging, or significant weight loss.

The surgery can be performed in a hospital setting, surgical center and sometimes in the plastic surgeon's office. Patients generally are placed under general anesthesia, with the duration of surgery lasting anywhere from 1 to 3 hours.

Surgeons begin the procedure by making a cut in one of four areas: underneath the breast, in the armpit, along the outer edge of the areola, or near the belly button. A space is then created for the implant using a special tool.

Implants may be made of a variety of materials and can come in a number of shapes and sizes.Your surgeon will help you choose the best incision type and implant location based on factors such as your body type, your present breast tissue volume, your implant choice, and your preferences regarding scarring.

The best candidates for breast enlargement are mentally and physically healthy women over the age of 18, that are interested in enhancing the size and shape of their breasts. Candidates must also accept that some scarring is likely to be permanent, while the results of the surgery are not, as some sagging and drooping of the breasts will occur over time.

It is not recommended that women planning future significant weight loss or pregnancy have breast implant surgery due, to that fact that being pregnant can have a negative impact on the support structures of the breasts.

Additionally, if you already have very heavy, full or droopy breasts, you may need a breast lift in combination with your breast augmentation surgery. Lastly, choosing a cup size not proportionate to your body frame is likely to bring disappointing results over the long term.

Often the most desirable results and safest surgeries are typically a result treatment from a board certified surgeon, as they are specially trained to perform cosmetic procedures.
