Choosing Your Model Truck, Plastic Or Die Cast?

There are two main model collectors in the world. There are those who love to build their own model trucks, and then there are those who love to collect the ones that come already assembled. So which are you, the pre-made sort or the do-it-yourself type? This is something that you will have to face when you decide to collect model trucks. If you happen to pick up one and it is the wrong sort do you take it back or do you keep it and try collecting that sort? This is something to keep in mind when you start collecting model trucks.

Plastic models usually come unassembled in a box and attached to a plastic parts "tree" that is known as a sprue. This means that you must remove them from the sprue before you can begin to assemble them. One of the benefits of this tree is that you can paint the parts before you remove them so that they are much easier to handle. You can also get a much better paint job this way as well. Plastic models do allow for a greater deal of leeway when it comes to personalization. Die cast models cannot be changed too much. Plastic ones though can be trimmed and adjusted in many different ways than they were originally manufactured to. You are also in full control of the paint jobs and the decals that you choose to add or not to add. If you choose to add different decals then those in the model then you can actually make your own or use those from other model truck kits. This choice is up to you.

Die cast models are models that are made of metal and come assembled straight from the factory. You can either choose to take one out of the box and look at it, or you can choose to leave them in the box and sealed so that they can retain their collection value. If you do take your die cast model from its box you might consider adding it to a diorama, this will help you to showcase it so that you might enjoy it a little more. With little to no assembly required these can be perfect for those who car little for building them but love to look at them. Another benefit to die cast models is the fact that they hold up for much longer than plastic might. They can also retain a resale value whereas plastic models tend to loose all the value that they might have had in the first place. Many of the older die cast models are highly sought after and can be worth quite a bit.

There is a wide world of model trucks out there. Some will always champion plastic models while others will always tout the benefits of die cast. As for which you should choose it is something you will have to decide. Whether you want to build your own or enjoy it straight out of the box you will be able to find model trucks that will more than to suit your tastes.
