Clean Granite Tiles Last Much Longer

By: David Faulkner

Granite tiles are very hard and durable compared to other types of tiles you can use for your home. No matter where you have installed granite tiles, they are sure to serve you for a very long time. But to further guarantee their endurance, you must take care of them very well. Here, we will be discussing the rather simple ways of how to clean granite tile in your home.

Because of their inherent durability, maintaining clean granite tiles is not that hard at all. If you have a granite countertop in your kitchen, just make sure you clean it after each time you cook. Wet a soft cloth and use that to apply dishwashing soap on the countertop, and voila! – you have clean granite tiles instantly.

There is one thing you have to know about granite tiles, though. Even though the rock itself is very hard and resistant to scratching, granite tiles are covered in a kind of sealant. This sealant give the granite tiles their shine and protects them from getting stained.

Acids are damaging to the sealant, and there are actually many common household chemicals that are acidic, such as cleaners, acidic solutions, hairspray, toothpaste, and perfumes. Acids can also be found in certain foods like orange juice, coffee, vinegar, and a lot more. It is vital to clean granite tiles right away when these kinds of substances are spilled onto the surface.

This is best done by employing the use of a sponge to soak in the offending substance first. Do not wipe it right away, as the spreading of the acid might aggravate the situation. Also, if there are tiny granules in the spilled substance, take extra care in removing them as well, to avoid grazing the sealant. When wiping down your granite tiles, try to avoid using the acidic detergents or cleaners. Instead of ending up with clean granite tiles, you will just be helping in weakening the granite's protective sealant. Instead, use those cleaners that have a neutral pH balance. There are also certain cleaners specifically designed for granite tiles. It may be more difficult to use these, though.

Even when you are certain that you have clean granite tiles all the time, and even if the sealant looks fine to you, it is advisable to reapply a coat of sealant about twice a year. When your granite tiles are installed in an area where there is much spillage going on, then you would have to reapply sealant more often. The frequency really depends on where your granite tiles are installed and how they are being used.

  • Seven Great Tropical Wall Decors By: Alyssa Davis - The interior wall of a room, house, or office is practically a blank canvas. By putting some artwork on it, you can add character to any place in the house. That artwork can be a beautiful design painted over a part or the entirety of the wall; a sculpture, a painting, a picture, or a mosaic hung over it; or even an artful display of light projected on the wall. One of the best themes of wall décor art is a tropical theme. This theme goes very well with houses, condominium units, studio rooms, and apartments on the beachfront.

  • Wonderful Windows By: Sarah Crosset - What single feature does almost every house have in common? Unless you’re living in an industrial loft space, your home’s interior most certainly includes a window with a view. Windows of all sizes allow your rooms to be bathed in natural daylight. The larger the window opening, the more light you’ll enjoy, as well as the illusion of bringing the outdoors inside to visually expand your living space. The question becomes, should you cover your windows? There are many practical reasons to obscure your window openings. Privacy in a bedroom or bathroom is usually desired, so naturally, covering the window is required.

  • Where to Find the Best Tacky Mats By: Jason Kay - Almost everyone has been told by their mothers to wipe their feet before coming inside. By that same token, almost everyone has forgotten to do so and left a trail of dirt and mess as they walked through the house. If you want to keep a truly clean home, wiping your feet on the doormat before entering is a big help. However, we all know that doormats don’t get the bottom of your shoes completely clean. How do we know this? The floors need mopping and the carpet needs vacuuming all too soon, even in a house where feet are wiped upon each entry.

  • Decorating - Getting Started With Color By: Sarah Crosset - When planning a room’s color scheme where do you begin? Do you first paint the walls, pick the floor covering, or buy a furniture piece to establish a place to start? Yes, any of those options will begin the color selection process. Another approach is to start where you may have ended before, by selecting the art for the walls. Instead of searching for decorative art to wrap up your project and fill an empty wall space, indulge your often ignored artistic sensibilities and find a piece of artwork that you love. Art through the ages has been a means of communication.

Does not sound a real good idea, does it? Here are some healthier alternative methods that you could try out instead!
