Cleaning Does Not Have to Be a Chore

By: Dave Roth

Most people do not really like to clean their homes. They feel that the chores take up too much of their time and that they would rather be doing something else. This is certainly understandable, but there are ways to make cleaning more effective and more efficient without breaking the bank – or your back! One of the easiest things that you can do to clean more quickly is to put things back where you got them when you are done using them. Too many people just lay an item down anywhere when they are finished with it, and the clutter piles up. Then it seems like it takes forever on cleaning day to get rid of that clutter, and who knows what small objects might get sucked into the vacuum cleaner when you vacuum the carpet, especially under the edges of couches, chairs, and tables. Just by putting things away when you are done with them instead of waiting for them to pile up or be fished from a vacuum cleaner bag you can save a lot of time cleaning.

Another good idea is not to have a specific day that you use to clean and vacuum the entire house. It can tie up an entire day – usually on a weekend – and can make you grumpy and irritable. If you put it off because you do not want to do it then the dirt and clutter just pile up and it makes it that much worse the next time. If you do this with the carpet, for example, it can make your vacuum cleaner work much harder and wear out a lot faster. Plus, most vacuums are not capable of getting that much ground-in dirt and grime out of the carpet. Instead of doing that, why not clean one or two rooms each day? That sounds like a chore because each day involves cleaning, but it is not really difficult at all. If it is only one or two rooms and the clutter has already been put away instead of being allowed to accumulate there is hardly anything to clean at all. That makes for happy homeowners who take pride in a neat and clean home.

Spending even half an hour each day cleaning can save you wasting your weekends stuck inside your house scrubbing things and putting away clutter. Of course there are times when you will have to take time to clean something more thoroughly but those kinds of cleanings can be once a month or even once every few months depending on the size of your house and how many people are in it. If you have children or pets you will probably have to clean more thoroughly more often – and you will also likely need a stronger and better vacuum cleaner for hair and dirt – but even large households can stay much cleaner by just keeping up with the housecleaning instead of letting it pile up until it becomes a huge chore that you almost cannot bring yourself to do.

The size of the room, the traffic patterns, locations of the windows and doors will all affect the furniture you select. Once you have determined your spatial boundaries and made a list of the furniture pieces that you require, it’s time to add some descriptive details to the words on your list; sofa, love seat, chair, tables, area rugs and lamps. As you shop for furniture items to fit your needs, notice how may room settings are configured with matching fabrics on the upholstered furniture and that are flanked with identical tables and pairs of lamps.

  • Seven Great Tropical Wall Decors By: Alyssa Davis - The interior wall of a room, house, or office is practically a blank canvas. By putting some artwork on it, you can add character to any place in the house. That artwork can be a beautiful design painted over a part or the entirety of the wall; a sculpture, a painting, a picture, or a mosaic hung over it; or even an artful display of light projected on the wall. One of the best themes of wall décor art is a tropical theme. This theme goes very well with houses, condominium units, studio rooms, and apartments on the beachfront.

  • Wonderful Windows By: Sarah Crosset - What single feature does almost every house have in common? Unless you’re living in an industrial loft space, your home’s interior most certainly includes a window with a view. Windows of all sizes allow your rooms to be bathed in natural daylight. The larger the window opening, the more light you’ll enjoy, as well as the illusion of bringing the outdoors inside to visually expand your living space. The question becomes, should you cover your windows? There are many practical reasons to obscure your window openings. Privacy in a bedroom or bathroom is usually desired, so naturally, covering the window is required.

  • Where to Find the Best Tacky Mats By: Jason Kay - Almost everyone has been told by their mothers to wipe their feet before coming inside. By that same token, almost everyone has forgotten to do so and left a trail of dirt and mess as they walked through the house. If you want to keep a truly clean home, wiping your feet on the doormat before entering is a big help. However, we all know that doormats don’t get the bottom of your shoes completely clean. How do we know this? The floors need mopping and the carpet needs vacuuming all too soon, even in a house where feet are wiped upon each entry.

  • Decorating - Getting Started With Color By: Sarah Crosset - When planning a room’s color scheme where do you begin? Do you first paint the walls, pick the floor covering, or buy a furniture piece to establish a place to start? Yes, any of those options will begin the color selection process. Another approach is to start where you may have ended before, by selecting the art for the walls. Instead of searching for decorative art to wrap up your project and fill an empty wall space, indulge your often ignored artistic sensibilities and find a piece of artwork that you love. Art through the ages has been a means of communication.

  • Home Decorating - It’s All Black & White By: Sarah Crosset - You’ve seen the photos of designer rooms decorated simply in black and white. Could you? Would you? Why Not? There’s an ease in simplicity. Limited choices are easier to select. It’s either black or white. The starkness of this designer look may cause you to shy away. But think about the ultimate utility of the little black dress or crisp white shorts in your wardrobe. They are so indispensible because of all the choices you have to put with these basic colors. Your room of basics can be thought of the same way. Begin your designer look room with a white shell.

  • Tips For Cleaning Your Gas Grills Quickly and Safely! By: Ron Carl - Last month a friend of mine applied sprayed on oven cleaner, but while trying to rinse it off outdoor with the water hose, the grass died. That puts forth a question to how safe it is to use these oven cleaners. You would potentially not wish to use any oven cleaner something like that because it is quite very taxing on your nerves to get all of the chemical washed away and once again really put your food flat upon those grates whilst broiling. Does not sound a real good idea, does it? Here are some healthier alternative methods that you could try out instead!
