Dollhouse Building - How to stick to schedule

By: dolly c

If you have bought a dollhouse for someone this year you are probably asking yourself how you are going to accomplish this momentous project in time. This article intention is to give some pointers on keeping with your deadline so that you can give your dollhouse gift on time and with less stress.

First, do not bite off more than you can chew

The old adage “don’t bite off more than you can chew” is especially true with dollhouse kits and dollhouse furniture. There are many great dollhouse kits and furniture pieces that will work with your family. One thing that you will want to keep track of when building a dollhouse is the size of the dollhouse. Most dollhouses are multiple stores high, and this will add to the difficulty of the task.

Take some time to think about your skills as a crafter. If this is your first attempt at something like this, you will need more time to become familiar with dollhouse design, painting and construction. For the most part dollhouses are easy to construct. They come with great instructions and are pre-cut for assemble. We do recommend that you plan some extra time in order to read up on proper techniques for two reasons: you might learn something, and two you will probably save some time

After you have sized up your abilities, it will be time to choose the appropriate size house. Obviously, one story house are very easy to put together. If you are looking for an easy dollhouse to put together that doesn’t have a simple look, then I would suggest the quick build kits. Quick build kits are designed for people who don’t have the time or energy to build a dollhouse from scratch or even from a kit. These quick build kits are great because they already have the wallpaper and flooring installed into the house. This will save both time and money. The kits go together very easily in a matter of minutes. Simply follow the detailed instructions and one two three presto, you have a dollhouse.

Second, make a plan and stick to it

Did you know that the most work in a project happens just before the deadline? I recommend for your stress level that you plan ahead and dedicate some time to building the dollhouse. An average dollhouse will take about 30 hours to complete. For larger dollhouses you will need to add more time. If this is your first dollhouse you will also need to add more time.

Most instructions break dollhouse building into bite size pieces. For example, you will build the shell of the dollhouse first and then put on the shingles. As a time saving note we recommend that you paint the dollhouse first before putting it together. As far as scheduling, it will be easier if you break your deadlines into smaller sections. For example have a deadline to have the dollhouse shell attached by a certain day, the roof on by another day, and the interior for another day. By applying these smaller deadlines you will know if you are on schedule or if you will need to burn the midnight oil to get the project done.

Conclusion

Dollhouse are fun to make, but can be quite stressful when a deadline like Christmas or a holiday is present. We recommend that you plan ahead and get a dollhouse kit that is appropriate for your time constraints. Also, when building the kit, make sure that you are working on a part-by-part basis to help you know whether you are on schedule or not.
