How shelving got my life in place

In all honesty, my life was messy and lacked organization. Clothing, books, music CDs and work supplies have seemed to have taken my house prisoner. I think I have found a new begining: the humble shelf.

For me, this process started several years back in time when I was studying at a local university. While researching on shelving units I observed that the library used some movable storage racks -- I suppose you know them; these racks come with handles on the ends and you can rotate them and move the racks out of the way.
I started thinking that this was definitely something that would work well in my own home!

Well, obviously I didn't go right away to purchase library movable shelving units -- but what definitely happened is that it started a thinking process within me about the idea of putting up a good amount of shelving around my own home. I've been seeing advertisements for van bins shelving lately, and I'm considering putting some in my van to keep my camping gear accessible. ***(I'm a scoutmaster).

So I started: I made a trip to the nearest building supply store and bought heavy-duty steel shelving for the wood storage area in my basement. I had a lot of things down there, including some really heavy stuff, but now it is put away tidily. I can actually walk through my basement now!

The next place is my home office. This is a disaster area! Shelving By Design has some wonderful home shelving systems which they manufacture. The bedroom and hall closets were my last trial. Since I had no idea how to best use them, I put these off until the end. I managed to find some cheap shelving that took less than an hour to hook up. This shelving ensures extra room for coats and shirts, as well as things like hats and boots. They were so affordable that I bought a wire closet shelving unit for all of my clothes closets in each bedroom at my house.

While it may not be the ideal method for overall organization, what solved the problem for me was adding more shelving and units for storage in the closet. Adding some additional shelving could help you reduce the amount of clutter that has accumulated in your house over the years.
