By: Eric Slarkowski

This item has got a specially designed tongue and groove system that ensures easy and flawless installation irrespective of who is doing it a professional or you yourself. In case you youre your Pergo flooring to be installed by a professional then you just all your retailer who will recommend a professional installer for you.

You need to first calculate and make an estimate of exactly how much resource has to be bought for the flooring before you actually start to install it. A proper room-size calculator should be used to determine the requirement. In case you are planning to install your Pergo flooring yourself then the items that are needed for the installation can be procured from the floor-shop itself. It is especially for this system that Pergo is looked upon not as just a floor but a complete system of flooring.

The following is a list of things that are required for the installation of the Pergo flooring and are found in any floor-shop:

Pergo Glue (It must be used as in that case the Pergo warranty is valid) Installation Kit This includes a tapping block and spacers, to ensure tight joints Pull bar - that ensures a tight fit in spaces which are difficult to reach otherwise. Under-layments which are used to level the minor undulations on the sub-floor and insulates against heat and sound. Floor clamps for simplified installation and a stronger finished floor. Pergo Sealant which secures the gap between the floor and the wall, and thus ensures optimum moisture resistance. Pergo Putty that makes up any damage that might occur to your floor during the installation. Installation straps though not recommended always for Pergo installation, but are good for simplifying the process.

There are a few tips that you should remember before installing the Pergo floor in your home. Pergo flooring is intended for indoor installation only. It should be installed as a floating floor with enough free space for its movement along the whole perimeter of the room. It should never be fixed to the sub-floor.

How much the floor movement is possible in keeping with the staircases, walls, pipes and other fixed objects in the room, should be considered and calculated before the installation, with regard to the changes in temperature and relative humidity of the place. In normal climate the expansion is generally 1/4". This should be particularly seen when installing the Pergo at corners, openings like doors, archways and also at angles.

Before installing a Pergo, allow it to acclimatize in the unopened cartons at least 48 hours before it is put on. In extreme climates like very dry or humid environment allow at least 96 hours for its acclimatization. The relative humidity of the place of installation should be 30-90% before, during and after the placing of the Pergo. The temperature should be stable and within 15F or the normal prevailing temperature of the place.

The installation of Pergo can be done above, on or below the grade. Pergo planks should always be installed on the Pergo Underlayment Foam or the Whisperwalk. In case the installation is being done over a concrete sub-floor then a Pergo 6-mil polyethylene vapor barrier is a must. The sub-floor should be checked several times for further requirements of the Pergo flooring before it is finally installed.
