Risks Of Tooth Whitening - Protect Yourself Against Getting Serious Harm!

By: Matthew T. Whitener

Lots of consumers this day and age, want to do something to enhance their cosmetic appearance. Tooth bleaching is one of the more accepted aesthetic treatments that consumers have embraced. The cost of bleaching teeth has come down significantly recently. The majority of consumers can now pay for tooth whitening one way or another. There are many options at your disposal for accomplishing whiter teeth. A whitening toothpaste or mouth wash comes to mind. But in all honesty, these types of things do not guarantee the results you would love to see.

Another method is to either go to a dentist and have him whiten your teeth, or you can buy a teeth bleaching kit for use at home. You will accomplish true results from both of these two methods. Both bleaching kits and your dentist use a chemical called carbamide peroxide, which is very useful. It is this chemical where all the genuine results come from. You are not going to find this compound in mere bleaching toothpastes. But hydrogen peroxide's aggressive nature can also harm your teeth. The abuse of this substance is accountable for all of the teeth whiteners and problems horror stories on the Net.

Because hydrogen peroxide chemically reacts aggressively, it can damage your teeth. Your tooth's enamel is the location where all those ugly stains, that you want to remove, are built up. The enamel is the shielding layer that is on the outside of the teeth. When hydrogen peroxide gets in contact with your teeth, it begins a chemical reaction. It then penetrates the teeth's enamel and starts destroying the stains. Colorless broken down bits are the result. Your tooth's enamel will, unfortunately, also be a little injured during this reaction.

You will get results and hurt the teeth's enamel only to a minimal extent, if you use low concentrations of hydrogen peroxide. When your teeth's enamel is injured only a little, it will mend itself rapidly. If you don't know what you're doing and you apply an overdose of hydrogen peroxide, you will harm your enamel beyond repair. The result of this is that you will permanently have more painful teeth. This is a real risk when you're using a bleaching kit for home use. You should go see a dentist when you want to be totally sure you will get impressive results without injuring your teeth.
