The Unique Challenges of English to French Translation

Canadian Or European French

Some challenges of English to French translation come into focus even when dealing with similar francophone cultures such as those of the province of Québec, Canada and France. The French language in Québec is commonly referred to as 'Québécois'. What dialect of French should be chosen to have a 'universal' translation that works for all audiences? It's generally agreed that the French of France, particularly around Paris, is 'standard'. Therefore, this dialect is taught in universities and schools worldwide and the one to select when an English to French translation needs to remain 'neutral'.
