What Attracts Me To A Restaurant?

By: Patricia Farnham

Many restaurant owner's need to pay more attention to what their customers have to say. Offering a survey is a good way to find out because you don't want to be losing customers due to not meeting their needs. As someone that eats out quite often, I can tell you that customers are looking for more than just good food. They want an experience that is worth every penny the pay for the atmosphere and the service too.

I eat out with friends at least once a week so it does add up to quite a bit of money I spend on this luxury each month. Since I don't like to cook though I think it is a good investment for me. There are some restaurants that I am known to eat at on a regular basis. When I am in them, I often see familiar faces as the establishment has a large number of regular customers. This is a good sign that they are doing everything right to keep customers happy.

We also go to some restaurants where the food is good but many of the other elements are missing. For example we may sit for five minutes before anyone even notices. The places aren't kept up well but they do offer some really good food. Other places have just disappointed us so many times that we took them off our list of places to eat at.

It is important for restaurant owner's to be aware of such information. With so many of them failing within months of first opening, they need to be able to identify with the needs of the consumers. It simply isn't enough to offer a great selection of foods. People go out to restaurants for a great time, not just to have a meal.

I want to go to a restaurant and feel confident that every one of my needs are going to be addressed while I am in there. There are times when it doesn't happen though and I am disappointed. If I feel like it is a one time thing then I will give them another chance. However, if I have a bad dinning experience at any restaurant twice then I don't go back. I figure there are too many other places out there that consistently offer my a great experience for me to take my chances on it a third time.

This isn't just an issue when people like me are eating at local restaurants. I travel quite often and I look for new restaurants to try. Sometimes I find out information about them online. Other times I am in a mood for a particular type of food and so that information on billboards capture my attention. On other occasions I go with a traditional chain restaurant where I can get one of my favorites that I am very likely going to enjoy at this location as well.

I do keep track of the restaurants I visit while I travel. I love to share my opinion about them both online and with other people I know. The overall package is what I am looking for with a restaurant. I think many other people are looking for that same thing. Good food is important but the establishment, the service, and the prices are important to people as well.

There is too much competition out there for restaurants not to cover all the basis elements. Offering a delicious menu is just one aspect of the business to focus on. There are many other pieces of the overall puzzle that have to be in place for it all to work out. I love restaurants and eating out, but I will only be spending my time and money in those establishments that have plenty to offer me.
